Truman Capote-Capital punishment-True Man

It is very easy to kill someone.
It only takes a gun and a moment of anger, of despair or lost.

But is Capital punishment the answer to more violence that we face every day?
Are we treating the root of the problem?
Are less people killing because they fear the lethal injection?

The answer is simply NO.

Who are we to decide on taking someone's life? We are protecting ourselves behind rules and regulations which we have created. Laws that make us feel powerful and maybe safe. We shouldnt follow our instincts. Killing is not answer, more violence is not the answer.
Capital punishment is not human. Despair is human, starvation is human, greed is human.

i agree! i just watched it yesterday and it's amazing how once you feel the despair and frustration you unexpectedly understand..i'm totally buying "in cold blood". and i also like the fact that Capote was not portrayed as the "perfect" journalist but as a real person with the good the bad and the ugly.

3azeezy abu arz,
u know there is sth about capital punishment that makes me feel 50-50 about it. in many ways, i agree w what u said but in some ways i think crimes have different degrees. for example, the dude who dropped the bomb on hiroshima & nagasaki, man him and the whole chain of command that he belonged to, i c no purpose for their lives. these people consciously knew the effects of the decisions they made. to top it all, the dude who actually pushed the button said if he were to relive his life he would not change a thing. what i am trying to say is that i feel murder has degrees. there r crimes that have a minimal ripple effect. there r other crimes that cannot b tolerated. carpet bombing villages is not an acceptable crime. there r a bunch of people who should take the blame and made to pay with their lives for the irreparable damage they caused. and i am not talking about the pilot in the plane who actually did the deed, but the group of people who carefully planned and paved way for it. so in a way, u r right that it doesn't lessen the amount of crimes done, but in other ways if properly dealt with it can hinder circles of crime from freely acting thinking a scape goat can be made available &pay the price.

3azezee captain!
The way I see it, there are 2 categories of crimes:
1) Crimes against humanity: Hiroshima, everyday crimes in Iraq, Milosevic.
I guess we agree that such people, well I am not sure we can call them people at this stage, are better off dead. In fact, I would rather have them suffer for the rest of the lives for what they have done.
On the other hand, during periods of war, a lot of horrific acts happen. Still, I guess it doesn’t justify what can take place.
2) Smaller scale crimes:
Everyday crime, rape, robbery.
Here, it becomes more delicate. First of all, we have to be 100% sure that that person did it. 100%, not less.
Second, as is popular, you claim insanity and try to get away with it. But, who are we to judge other people? Do you feel comfortable taking someone’s life?
Ironically, I was reading an article about doctors and nurses during capital punishment. Both societies are against MD's or RN's helping in the death penalty. They can only confirm that the person is dead. Confirm, because someone else needs to declare them dead first. They cant even be the first person to examine them because in case they are not dead, they will have to resuscitate them.

Certain studies have shown that implementing capital punishment didn’t decrease the rate of crime. So what’s the point?
Basically, except for crimes against humanity, capital punishment doesn’t seem to make much sense to me.
