Since July 12, 2006, Lebanon has been subjected to a savage aggression that has so far led to the loss of around 350 human lives, the injury of more than 600, the displacement of around 20 percent of the Lebanese population, the isolation of almost half the country due to severe damage to essential infrastructure and the continuing threat of aerial bombardment. A humanitarian crisis is looming over Lebanon as the living conditions, particularly in South Lebanon, are worsening with the unavailability of shelter, food or medicine for inhabitants and the refugees. In hardly hit areas, there is a serious threat of chemical intoxication and health hazards. The toll of loss of life and property is growing by the minute.
