I can hear Explosions in the Sky

Most of the bands are completely dependent on a lead singer, a voice, a charismatic performer on stage.

There are exceptions to the rule. and many times, they almost negate the rule.

Very few bands can function without a vocalist. Yes,it's basically a band without a singer. And it works. They are called Mogwai, they are called explosions in the sky. Their lyrics lie in the atmosphere they create. they can talk to you, without words. The rhythm rhymes with each heartbeat. You can sense despair and joy, but they leave up to you to formulate.
